TERRA Songwriting Retreats
Three nights. A small group. Total focus on the work.
We bring the framework. The writers in the room bring the rest.
That exchange is where the real work happens.
The Philosophy
We believe that quantity begets quality. The more you write, the better you get - and the only way to get there is to fall in love with the process, not the outcome. Every song you write is one in thousands you'll write in your lifetime. Hold them lightly.
That means no song is precious, and no writer is judged on a single piece of work. What matters is showing up, doing the work, and trusting that the growth is happening - even when it's hard to see.
We also draw on the core principles of comedy improv as an entry point into collaboration. "No, because." "Yes, but." "Yes, and." Three simple frameworks that change how writers listen to each other, respond to ideas, and build something together that neither could have made alone.
"There's something alchemical about TERRA. This community has fueled my creativity, deepened my practice, and empowered me to pursue music in ways I never expected." — Ali, Cleveland
What to Expect
TERRA retreats are held in carefully chosen locations - places that offer real disconnection from everyday life, sit on natural property, and create the conditions for focus and play in equal measure. Displacement matters. A new environment gives your mind new permission.
Over three nights, a small group of writers will gather to work. Expect personal writing time, curated conversations on songwriting, group listening sessions, co-writing, and guided exercises designed to break through the barriers that follow you home.
Most attendees leave with 8-10 new songs. That might sound like a lot. It is - and it happens every time. Want to hear what past attendees have made? Listen to Alumni Releases →
Small groups are intentional. Everyone is heard. Everyone contributes.
Who It's For
If your intention is to grow, work, and collaborate - you belong here. TERRA retreats welcome songwriters at every level, from those just finding their voice to seasoned writers looking for a room that pushes them. Instruments optional. Openness required.
"Going to a TERRA Songwriting Retreat ripped a bandaid off of a creative block that had been in place for years. The encouragement, openness, and genuine kindness I received in response to my work was monumental and honestly healing to me." — Joel, Cleveland, OH
"I found myself going WAY out of my comfort zone in a way that I've never done on my own, and getting much more benefit in 4 days than I would have gotten in 4 months at home." — Tom, Portsmouth, NH
